Stormy Weather

There is something really pleasant about a cosy room on a stormy day. So far we have escaped any damage although I just looked out to see a large limb has fallen off a neighbour's tree into what would be garden if it wasn't for the drought (I abandoned that part of the garden two years ago when the drought started to bite to cut down on watering). A combination of high tides, rain and wind has put some of the roads along the river underwater so last night Pisces drove home with wavelets lapping near the doors of his car and then, as he reached higher ground, was nearly blown off the road by winds gusting up to gale force. But we have rain. Whether it will be enough is another question.

Yep, I usually like storms because we live on top of a hill. We get all the wind and lightning, lots of rain, but no flooding... only last week at son's football match, I got caught out in it. Rain blowing horizontal. Umbrella inside out. Rain jacket leaked. Shoes soaked. My styrene tea mug was ripped out of my hand and was half a kilometre away within seconds. And the kids kept playing. And won!!

Kids are amazingly accepting and resilient. Or completely without sense and feeling, depending on which way you look at it!

So good to see you guys this morning. Stay well and keep writing:-)

Times like this I am glad I live where I do...

Hi Glenda. It has calmed down but there's another front supposed to be on its way. Still we desperately need the rain so there aren't too many complaints. Now if only the rain reaches into the farming and pastoral areas many of which are still waiting.

Your story reminded me of a netball match when my daughter was in primary school. We mothers hustled them into the change rooms as soon as they had finished - they won too - to wrap them in whatever dry clothes they had. Their shoes were full of water when they took them off and with four saturated girls in the car the heater could barely stop the windscreen fogging up on the way home. (The other team wanted to call the match off but our girls were so fiercely competitive they weren't having that.)
