Daffodils

Not a lake or tree in sight and definitely not fluttering. (Where did Wordsworth get that line from? Swaying - maybe. Dancing - fair enough. Fluttering - never). Nonetheless they're one of the joys of Spring - even if it is two days off.

From my garden:

And, just to be fair, one of the last of the winter flowers - a potted camellia that stands outside my back door.

And, best of all, it's been raining.

My daffodils and Irises didn't appear this year. I don't know what happened to them. We had jonquils in profusion, though,

My Dutch irises, some of which had been in the same spot for about ten years, didn't come up this year either.
Satima says to preserve the daffodils for future flowering, dig them up once they have died back and put them in the fridge for the summer, then plant them in well manured soil next season so I'm going to try that.

Hmmm... I thought it might have something to do with not digging them up. I'm so tempted to replace them with something native, like grevilleas, but daffodils and irises are such a favorite of mine. I guess I better go look for my gardening gloves.

They are lovely. Most of my garden while pretty is a true cottage garden with almost everything having a useful purpose mainly for food. Lots of herbs and so on - but there are a few ornamentals. The bulbs, spring flowering and some others, are something I don't want to live without.
